DHEA - production peaks in your mid-20s. In most people production gradually declines with age.
Testosterone and estrogen production also generally declines with age. DHEA supplements can increase the level of these hormones. That's why a number of claims have been made about their potential health benefits.
Those claims range from benefits such as:
- Building up the adrenal gland
- Strengthening the immune system
- Slowing natural changes in the body that come with age
- Providing more energy
- Improving mood and memory
- Building up muscle strength
Pregnenolone - is used for fatigue and increasing energy; Alzheimer’s disease and enhancing memory; trauma and injuries; as well as stress and improving immunity.
It is also is used for skin disorders including psoriasis and scleroderma.
Women use pregnenolone for lumpy breasts (fibrocystic breast disease), a disorder of the lining of the uterus (endometriosis), symptoms of menopause, andpremenstrual syndrome (PMS).
Some people use pregnenolone for slowing or reversing aging, arthritis, anddepression. It is also used for strengthening the heart, allergic reactions, “detoxification,” lupus, multiple sclerosis (MS), prostate problems, and seizures.
MSM - is used for chronic pain, osteoarthritis, joint inflammation, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, bursitis, tendonitis, tenosynovitis, musculoskeletal pain, muscle cramps, scleroderma, scar tissue, stretch marks, hair loss, wrinkles, protection against sun/wind burn, eye inflammation, oral hygiene, periodontal disease, wounds, cuts, and abrasions/accelerated wound healing. It is either taken by mouth or applied to the skin for these uses.
Scottish Pine Bark Extract - (not from WebMD) is a bioidentical hormone found naturally in the body 4-androstenedione which is the precurser to what many believe is the most powerful hormone for anti-aging, and one of the most powerful anti-inflammatories in existence for the human body.
Beta-sitosterol - is a substance found in plants. Chemists call it a “plant sterol ester.” It is found in fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. It is used to make medicine.
Beta-sitosterol is used for heart disease and high cholesterol. It is also used for boosting the immune system and for preventing colon cancer, as well as forgallstones, the common cold and flu (influenza), HIV/AIDS, rheumatoid arthritis, tuberculosis, psoriasis, allergies, cervical cancer, fibromyalgia, systemic lupuserythematosus (SLE), asthma, hair loss, bronchitis, migraineheadache, and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Some men use beta-sitosterol for enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH). Some women use it for symptoms of menopause.
It is also used for enhancing sexual activity.
Marathon runners sometimes use beta-sitosterol to reduce pain and swelling after a run.
Avena Sativa - (not from WebMD) is known to reduce SHBG which may contribute greatly to maintaining natural hormone levels in men and women. Especially useful for anyone on HRT as it maximizes effectiveness instead of causing it to decline overtime.
Chrysin - belongs to a class of chemicals called flavonoids. It occurs naturally in plants such as the passionflower, silver linden, and some geranium species; and in honey and bee propolis (glue).
Chrysin is used for bodybuilding; for treating anxiety, inflammation, gout, HIV/AIDS,erectile dysfunction (ED), and baldness; and others.
(not from WebMD) The reason chrysin is described for each is because it is known to lower toxic estrogen metabolites from plastics, pesticides, and pollution.
Vitamin E - is a vitamin that dissolves in fat. It is found in many foods including vegetable oils, cereals, meat, poultry, eggs, fruits, vegetables, and wheat germ oil. It is also available as a supplement.
Vitamin E is used for treating vitamin E deficiency, which is rare, but can occur in people with certain genetic disorders and in very low-weight premature infants.
Some people use vitamin E for treating and preventing diseases of the heart and blood vessels including hardening of the arteries, heart attack, chest pain, leg pain due to blocked arteries, and high blood pressure.
Vitamin E is also used for treating diabetes and its complications.
Tribulus - is a plant that produces fruit covered with spines. Rumor has it that tribulus is also known as puncture vine because the spines are so sharp they can flatten bicycle tires. People use the fruit, leaf, and root as medicine for wide-ranging complaints.
Tribulus is used for kidney problems, including kidney stones, painful urination, a kidney disorder called Bright’s disease, and as a “water pill” (diuretic) to increase urination; for skin disorders, including eczema (atopic dermatitis), psoriasis, andscabies; for male sexual problems, including erectile dysfunction (ED), involuntary release of semen without orgasm (spermatorrhea), and to increase sexual desire; for heart and circulatory system problems, including chest pain, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and “tired blood” (anemia); for problems with digestion, includingcolic, intestinal gas (flatulence), constipation, and to expel intestinal parasitic worms; for pain and swelling (inflammation) of the tissue lining the mouth (stomatitis) and sore throat.
Zinc - is a metal. It is called an “essential trace element” because very small amounts of zinc are necessary for human health.
Zinc is used for treatment and prevention of zinc deficiency and its consequences, including stunted growth and acute diarrhea in children, and slow wound healing.
It is also used for boosting the immune system, treating the common cold and recurrent ear infections, and preventing lower respiratory infections. It is also used for malaria and other diseases caused by parasites.
Zinc is essential for the hormone receptor sites so that hormones produced are actually received and utilized properly by the body.
